Oracle says it has now delivered well over 1,000 AI agents inside its applications, and in March it announced 22 'agentic applications' for Fusion Cloud, several of which are documented in the 26B quarterly update that reached production in May. Those features are built on Fusion. For E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft customers, Oracle is offering something different: support running to at least 2037 and, for PeopleSoft, planned connectors that let customers bring in AI of their own choosing.

Where the 1,000 figure comes from

The number comes from Oracle's third-quarter earnings call on 10 March, where Mike Sicilia, one of its two chief executives, said the company had delivered well over 1,000 agents inside its horizontal business applications and its industry applications, with hundreds in the banking suite alone. He also said the embedded agents are available at no additional cost.

A year earlier, when Oracle launched AI Agent Studio in London on 20 March 2025, it referred to the 50-plus AI agents it had already introduced in Fusion Applications. The two figures do not cover the same estate, since the 2026 count takes in industry applications as well as Fusion, so the growth is real but the comparison is not like for like.

The same results showed cloud applications (SaaS) revenue of $4.0 billion for the quarter, up 13 per cent in dollars and 11 per cent in constant currency. Fusion Cloud ERP and NetSuite each brought in $1.1 billion. Remaining performance obligations stood at $553 billion, and Oracle said most of the quarter's increase came from large AI infrastructure contracts.

What Oracle means by an agentic application

Oracle announced Fusion Agentic Applications at its AI World Tour event in London on 24 March. Each one is a workspace in which a team of specialised agents works towards a business outcome, using Fusion's own data, workflows, approval hierarchies and permissions. Oracle said 22 were available, and named four as examples: a Workforce Operations application for HR, a Design-to-Source Workspace for supply chain, a Cross-Sell Program Workspace for sales and a Collectors Workspace for finance.

On 9 April, at the AI World Tour stop in New York, Oracle set out the list by pillar. Finance got the Claims Settlement Workspace, the Collectors Workspace and a Sales Order Command Center. Supply chain got nine, including the Cost Accounting Close Workspace, the Maintenance Operations Workspace, the Warehouse Operations Workspace and a Sourcing Command Center. The HR list includes a Manager Concierge Workspace and a Workforce Operations Command Center, and CX has Sales, Marketing and Service Manager applications.

What arrived in 26B, and how it is switched on

Oracle applies quarterly updates to test environments first and production two weeks later; for 26B that was 1 May and 15 May. Several of the agentic applications appear in Oracle's 26B readiness notes, and the notes show they do not simply appear on the day.

The Cost Accounting Close Workspace, for example, is off by default. An administrator sets the profile option ORA_CST_PERIOD_CLOSE_AGENTIC_APP_ENABLED to Yes at site level, and users then see six panels covering period close exceptions, inventory valuation, gross margins, subledger status, priority actions and email status updates. The note tells users to check AI-recommended actions against their own priorities before applying them. The Production Shift Operations Workspace is labelled an early release version.

The notes also set out the security. The Cost Accounting note, for example, says that to use agents on a Fusion page a user's configured job role has to contain the Fai Genai Agent Runtime Duty, permission groups have to be enabled on that role in the Security Console, and the role must already give access to the pages where the agents run. An agent works within the access its user already has.

In finance, the 26B note for the Payables Agent says Document IO, a generative AI ingestion engine, becomes the default for reading supplier invoices, replacing the Intelligent Document Recognition engine. It also says generative AI services run in Oracle's commercial cloud realm (OC1), and that environments hosted outside OC1 get them when the services reach their region.

AI Agent Studio and what it costs

AI Agent Studio is where customers and partners build their own agents. The 24 March update added an Agentic Applications Builder that assembles applications from Oracle, partner and external agents in natural language, plus workflow orchestration with human oversight, contextual memory across interactions, multimodal inputs, monitoring and a prompt playground, and an Agent ROI dashboard that reports time and cost saved per agent. Oracle says the studio is available at no additional cost, and that more than 63,000 partner staff are certified in it.

The October 2025 release added an AI Agent Marketplace for partner-built agents, a choice of models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, Google, Meta and xAI, and support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agent-to-agent connections. It also added a token usage view that, in Oracle's words, measures consumption for premium LLMs to make costs more predictable. So the studio is free, while a customer choosing a premium model should ask Oracle what that model's consumption costs.

On the March call Larry Ellison said customers can build agents using any AI model, and that Oracle will have a complex agent for the accounting close.

The database features run anywhere

The AI Database announcements on 24 March are a different case, because Oracle's announcement says they are available on all platforms, from multicloud to on-premises. The Private Agent Factory is a no-code agent builder that runs as a container in a public cloud or on a customer's own hardware, with pre-built Database Knowledge, Structured Data Analysis and Deep Data Research agents. The Unified Memory Core stores agent context in one engine across vector, JSON, graph, relational, text, spatial and columnar data.

Deep Data Security puts user-specific access rules in the database itself, so an agent acting for a user can only see what that user is allowed to see. The Autonomous AI Database MCP Server lets external agents and MCP clients reach the database without custom integration code. Oracle headed that part of its announcement 'End AI data lock-in with open standards and frameworks'.

Oracle Access Governance, its cloud identity governance service, added Oracle CX Sales as a managed system in May, along with provisioning of Area of Responsibility assignments from templates defined in Fusion. Neither is an AI feature, but both affect the roles and access that a Fusion agent works within.

What EBS and PeopleSoft customers get

On 25 March Oracle extended Premier Support for E-Business Suite 12.2 through at least 2037.

At BLUEPRINT 4D in Dallas (4 to 7 May), Paco Aubrejuan's PeopleSoft keynote said support runs through 2037 and continues to be extended annually. Oracle's own write-up of the keynote says generative AI will not be embedded directly in PeopleSoft applications. The PeopleTools 8.63 roadmap instead includes an MCP Server, a Natural Language Search Service, a chat interface and an AI code assistant in Application Designer, so customers can connect PeopleSoft data to the AI platform and models they choose, under PeopleSoft security. Oracle also said it continues to encourage PeopleSoft customers to evaluate Fusion as their long-term cloud strategy.

So the agentic applications and AI Agent Studio are Fusion-only, while the database features are open to on-premises estates and PeopleSoft's MCP Server is on the PeopleTools 8.63 roadmap. Our view is that this makes AI a fair line in a Fusion business case, but not a reason on its own to move an EBS or PeopleSoft estate before it is ready.

Oracle reports its fourth-quarter and full-year results for fiscal 2026 on 10 June.
